Meeting with Muslim clerics

On May 23 on 3.30 pm, the staff members and students of the Jagiellonian University Centre for Holocaust Studies met with a group of Muslim imams in the JU Collegium Maius. The clerics came to Poland at the invitation of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The aim of the visit was to make the clerics familiar with the sites related to Holocaust. The programme of their stay in Poland included a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum. The imams were accompanied by a delegation of congressmen and Jewish activists from the United States. During the meeting, the participants listened to two presentations: "Protocols and hate literature" by Dr Edyta Gawron, on the undiminished popularity of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and "Righteous Among the Nations: Muslims Who Saved Jews from Holocaust" by Dr Bartosz Kwieciński, about Muslims who have received the Righteous among the Nations medals. The presentations were followed by a very interesting panel discussion, moderated by the Head of the JU Centre for Holocaust Studies, Dr Jolanta Ambrosewicz-Jacobs.
