Church and Contemporary World

The Chair in Byzantine and Orthodox Culture of the JU Institute of Russia and Eastern Europe has organized an international conference Church and Contemporary World, which took place on 6 and 7 June 2013 at the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU) and the premises of the Orthodox Parish of St Mary's Assumption in Kraków.

The topic of the conference was part of the series about Christianity in contemporary world. The meeting was organized in collaboration with the Orthodox Parish of St Mary's Assumption in Kraków and the PAU Commission on Slavonic Culture. The conference featured Polish Orthodox Church officials, representatives of Moscow Patriarchate, and distinguished academics from Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian and Polish higher education institutions. This year's conference was focused on such issues as: Churches vis-à-vis contemporary ideologies and political systems, contemporary culture, globalization, the European Union, and Islam.
